| »SINGING IN THE RAIN« 2003 / 2004 |
Artist‘s statement Without water life is not possible.Every raindrop is full of meaning for life, carrying the key for existence.Human eye can see a waterdrop only, but its real content is soul. The surgeons are saying, they can‘t find the soul in the body of a patient, the scientists fail in constant results of their tests with water…Water has a soul! Water is soul! Accommodating itself to any object or being in contact, water is never the same! Constantly changing, it catches the present mood of a person or of any surroundings, water is the mirror of the world… Since many years I am trying to work out the elements of the nature, which we can‘t possess. We can experience it by physical touch only and feel a resonance inside our soul The ‘wind‘ was my first attempt to face an element on canvas. Around 3 years back I turned to the element ‘water‘ and started to experiment with the ‘rain‘.I tried to create different circumstances, my present experience and my past memories. I remember, when I was a kid, all day long I could watch the monsoon rain with my full heart, the rhythm of the rain falling and the water growing, listening the sound of the raindrops. The rain makes everything alive and at the same time it can destroy all life…The first rain-painting followed the serial ‘blue‘. The colour ‘blue‘ led me to the rain, which made me playing with the different colour tones of water in a rainy scene – “Beginning of Monsoon“, “First Rain“, “First Day of Monsoon after a long Heat“, “Endless Rain“, “Rain“…After experiencing these colours of moods, rain creates with water, figures came into the frame. 80% of a body is water. Somehow, this water inside of the body must be in a resonance with the water outside of the body. The water of the bodycells and the rain communicate without our knowing and awareness, every moment it rains they come into dialogue. They might discuss things, we should know for better understanding life. During this rain-painting‘s period my youngest sister died. This incident of tragedy made me experience the rain of the pain: tears! In “Hommage to my Youngest Sister“, these tears are catching up the light of nature. At the same time, I worked on “Ecce Homo“ as a reflection of my body and soul. While working on these paintings I slowly overcame the sadness and found in the “Night“ an elephant. When I saw the photograph of Paola Pivi I was deeply touched in my mind – this poor lonely donkey floating on a boat, not reaching any shore. In “A Donkey in the Rain“ I took this motive, painting it in the rain.Several figures and faces I placed in the rain, to each one I have a very personal relation – “Modigliani“, “Jean Genet“, “Albert Duerer‘s Mother“, “Francis Bacon“, “Thomas Mann“, never to forget my special friend “Van Gogh“.With “Nijinsky dancing in the Rain“ I realized Nijinsky‘s wish, which he couldn‘t accomplish in his lifetime. While he spent many years in the Mental Hospital he mentioned in his diaries, that he would like to dance in the rain, but he never did.
